Funding available for Social Care Qualifications in Northern Ireland  - Level 2 Certificate in Safe and Effective Practice

This funding information and application is intended for Social Care Managers and Employers from organisations in the Community, Voluntary and Independent sectors who are responsible for registered social care workers delivering services in Northern Ireland.

The Department of Health has approved funding which will support social care workforce reform. Managed by the Social Care Council, the funding aims to enable people at the commencement of their registered social care career journey to undertake the newly available Care in Practice Framework entrance level qualification - the Level 2 Certificate in Safe and Effective Practice.

The funding is available to Independent, Community and Voluntary sector providers to support the Level 2 Certificate in Safe and Effective Practice.

There will be no age restriction on applications.  Each social care organisation must source qualification provision from appropriate providers.

For further information on the terms associated with this funding, please read the guidance in the ‘Principles for funding of qualifications’ which is linked at the bottom of this page.

Eligible organisations are invited to make applications for up to two social care staff. In the event that the number of applicants exceeds capacity, appropriate applications will be placed on a waiting list in case further funding becomes available.

The deadline for applications for funding is 5pm on 10 January 2025. The Social Care Council intends for all employers to be informed of application outcomes by 17 January 2025.
