Overview

My Experience of Using Equipment to Live Better with a Disability

Your voice matters

We want to hear about your experience of using Health and Social Care (HSC) Trust-supplied equipment that helps you live more independently. By sharing your story, you can help us improve services for everyone across Northern Ireland.

What do we mean by ‘equipment’?

This includes items that make daily life easier, such as:

  • Community Equipment Services: walking aids, shower seats, hoists, hospital/profile beds or bed rails
  • Wheelchairs
  • Minor Adaptations: Small changes to the home—like adding handrails
  • Home Lifts / Overhead Tracking Hoists
  • Electronic Assistive Technology: Tools for communicating, controlling home appliances or using telecare systems e.g. fall/flood/chair sensors

Why are we asking for your experience?

In 2024, the Department of Health reviewed these services across Northern Ireland. The review found good practice but also highlighted the need to improve the experience for people who use this equipment.

The 10,000 MORE Voices initiative was created to listen to people who use health and social care services. Your feedback will help us:

  • Understand what works well
  • Identify areas for improvement
  • Shape better services for the future

Who can share a story?

  • People who use this type of equipment
  • Carers
  • Family members

Will my story be confidential?

Yes. Everything you share is private, confidential and managed in line with GDPR and Health and Social Care (HSC) Information Governance.
