Regional HSC Personal and Public Involvement Forum - Service User and Carer Application.

Overview

Introduction

This online form is designed to provide information and an application process for service users and carers (of the Health and Social Care (HSC) system), who are interested in becoming members of the Regional HSC Personal and Public (PPI) Forum.

What is the Regional HSC PPI Forum?

The Regional HSC PPI Forum brings together HSC organisations, service users and carers to work collaboratively to progress Involvement in the HSC in Northern Ireland. The Regional HSC PPI Forum works to embed PPI into the culture and practice of the HSC.

The primary role of the Forum is to provide leadership and support in order to drive forward the promotion and co-ordination of PPI across HSC organisations in Northern Ireland. It does this through:

1. The sharing of best practice;
2. Joint working on areas of common interest;
3. The active participation of service users and carers.

The Forum is committed to ensuring that everyone wishing to be involved in the planning, development and evaluation of HSC services is facilitated to do so, irrespective of their learning, skills, knowledge and experience. As we plan and develop services, we can only make improvements by involving people who have experience of using these services, either as a service user, carer or member of the public.

What is PPI?

Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) is a process whereby service users, carers and the public are empowered and enabled to inform and influence the commissioning, planning, delivery and evaluation of health and social care services in ways that are relevant and meaningful to them.

The Statutory Duty to Involve and Consult brought in under the 2009 HSC Reform Act, requires us (HSC) to engage with service users, carers, the public and the Patient Client Council in the planning, development and decisions on the provision of care.

What is the role of the service user and carer (SUC)?

By becoming a member of Regional HSC PPI Forum, you will be a representative of the service user and carer population across the HSC system. You will contribute to regional discussions to progress Involvement and advocate for the involvement of service users and carers in regional strategic issues. Meeting with other service user and carer representatives of the Forum, you will identify and progress collective areas of work to advance PPI.

Who can apply?

1. Residents of Northern Ireland who are users of health and/or social care services;
2. Residents of Northern Ireland who are unpaid carers for someone using health and/or social care services;
3. People with experience of Involvement in the HSC.
