Call for Information on Resettlement to Inform Recommendations

This is a call for information about recent and ongoing experience of resettlement related to Muckamore Abbey Hospital.

The Inquiry completed its evidence sessions in October 2024. The Inquiry has also heard the closing statements of Core Participants in March 2025. The Inquiry Panel is now preparing its report.

The Inquiry’s Terms of Reference required the Panel to look at events at Muckamore Abbey Hospital between 02 December 1999 and 14 June 2021.  

The Inquiry Panel is aware that some patients and their families have continued to experience difficulties with the process of resettlement since June 2021.

If the Panel decides to make recommendations about resettlement in its report, it wants to make sure that it has given an opportunity to people to tell the Panel about these recent experiences.

If you have recent or ongoing experience of resettlement related to Muckamore, the Panel would be interested in hearing from you. The period to which this exercise relates is from 14 June 2021 to the present.

You may have already assisted the Inquiry, but even if you have not done so, you might still be able to assist with this exercise.

The Chair of the Inquiry has made a direction (Resettlement Briefing) on 21 March 2025 setting out the full details of how this exercise will work.

There are three different ways in which individuals with relevant experience will be invited to assist: through small group sessions or individual attendance before the Panel in early June, or by providing a note of their experience to the Panel. You can choose which suits you best. If you attend to assist the Panel, you will be able to bring someone to support you if you wish. The full timetable for this exercise is set out in the Chair’s direction. Participation is, of course, entirely voluntary.

The first step is to fill in the contact form. The strict deadline for completion is 25 April 2025, but you are encouraged to fill the form in as soon as possible to assist the Inquiry with planning.
