Fair Employment Monitoring Return for 2025
Overview
The Civil Service is an Equal Opportunities Employer. To demonstrate our commitment to equality of opportunity in employment and as part of our obligations under the Fair Employment and Treatment (NI) Order 1998, we must monitor the community background of our applicants and employees and submit an annual monitoring return to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI).
In the return, we are required to provide specific information relating to the community background and sex of employees, applicants, appointees and in some instances promotees and leavers. A failure to submit a return is a criminal offence, as is a failure to submit one within the prescribed period. This carries a penalty of up to £5,000 as well as other sanctions.
We have identified a list of NICS employees whose community background is not held on HR Connect. You are included in this list, and we are therefore asking you to indicate your community background by completing the two questions in this survey. Regardless of whether you practice the religion you were brought up in, we are required to monitor and provide this information in our return. By providing this information will allow the NICS to comply with its statutory obligation in making a Fair Employment Monitoring Return to ECNI.
Responses must be received by 5pm Thursday 27 February 2025.
