NISRA NICS Employment & Personnel Report Consultation Questionnaire

Overview

The NISRA Workforce Statistics & Analysis (WSA) Team within People & Organisational Development publishes an annual report Personnel Statistics in the NICS. This report covers staff numbers, part-time working and leavers in the previous 3 years.

WSA also publishes a quarterly Employment in the NICS report for users requiring more frequent data on NICS staff as well as GB comparisons.

WSA is consulting our users on proposed changes to these two statistical outputs. The consultation opens on Wednesday 7 January and will close on Sunday 1 February. Feedback on the proposed changes is welcome from all users and stakeholders.

WSA has been working with NISRA to develop NICS HR Personnel datasets on the NISRA Data Portal. The portal offers interactive charts and maps to help you explore data visually, as well as options to download datasets for your own analysis.  The Data Portal is the central hub for accessing official statistics from NISRA, bringing together datasets from across government departments in one easy-to-use platform.  Whether you’re interested in population trends, economic indicators, or social statistics, the portal provides access to official statistics to support decision-making and research.  A series of user guidance videos are provided to walk you through the key features and show you how to make the most of the Data Portal.

Please explore the NICS HR data on the NISRA Data Portal (Browse – “Work, pay and benefits” and “NI Civil Service workforce”) and give us your feeback.

Why your views matter

The consultation seeks views from users and stakeholders on the following proposals:

  • Publication of the annual Personnel Statistics in the NICS report in HTML (similar to the Pay in the NICS report).
  • Publication of Personnel Statistics in the NICS data on the NISRA Portal only enabling bespoke analysis.
  • Publication of Personnel Statistics in the NICS data on the NISRA portal enabling bespoke analysis and HTML summary report.
  • Suspension of the quarterly Employment in the NICS report until further notice.

These proposals have been designed to streamline WSA statistical processes whilst continuing to meet user needs. This will ensure available statistical resource is used effectively and enable the development of value-added projects.

This consultation is an opportunity for you to provide feedback on these proposals and to tell us how these changes would impact on you and your work. We want to understand how the proposed changes would affect our users and to make changes with as little disruption as possible.
