School Milk Subsidy Scheme Survey for Parents / Guardians
Introduction
The School Milk Subsidy Scheme in Northern Ireland enables children and young people to get milk at a reduced cost in school, with the aim of encouraging children and young people to consume milk and dairy products. The Scheme is optional for schools to participate in, and currently just over a third (36%) of Primary and Special Educational Needs Schools in Northern Ireland take part. Children who participate in the scheme get a 189ml serving of milk per day, usually at morning break time, at the cost of approximately 21p per serving to parents.
The scheme is administered by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland and delivered by the Education Authority in conjunction with the Department of Education. We are evaluating the scheme and would appreciate your feedback as you have a child or children attending school. As part of the survey, we will also be asking some questions on fruit and vegetable consumption, and breakfast clubs within schools; this will help us form a wider picture.
