Northern Ireland Peatland Strategy 2021-2040

Overview

The draft Northern Ireland Peatland Strategy 2021-2040 Consultation Document provides an outline of the policy drivers for the development of this strategy, the ecosystem services that semi-natural peatlands in Northern Ireland provide, details the current factors affecting our semi-natural peatlands and sets out the objectives and actions which we consider necessary to ensure that our semi-natural peatlands are conserved and restored to functioning ecosystems.  

This public consultation is open for a period of twelve weeks until 1st September 2021. We encourage you to respond as early as possible and welcome responses from all sectors, age groups, organisations and individuals.

Why your views matter

The Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs (DAERA) is seeking views on the Draft Northern Ireland Peatland Strategy 2021-2040. 

We are using NI Direct's Citizen Space as our primary response route for collating responses from all stakeholders - please provide your responses to the survey online if you can. 

We would also encourage responses to be kept as concise as possible.  If you are not able to provide your responses online, there are instructions for other response methods in the Letter to Stakeholders document.

What happens next

Once the public consultation exercise is finished,  the responses will be analysed and we will publish a Consultation Response Summary Document on the DAERA website.
