Draft Environmental Principles Policy Statement

DAERA is consulting on a draft environmental principles policy statement, which sets out how five internationally recognised environmental principles should be interpreted and proportionately applied to policy making. DAERA has a statutory duty, under Schedule 2 to the Environment Act 2021, to prepare and publish a policy statement. When fully in force, all NI departments and UK Government ministers making policy for NI will have a statutory duty to have due regard to the statement.

This consultation, which must be read in conjunction with the draft policy statement attached below (and repeated on each page for convenience), provides an opportunity for stakeholders to provide feedback. Your input will help DAERA to fully understand and consider the impacts of the EPPS from a stakeholder perspective and allow appropriate refinement of the document.
