Consultation on draft Irish Sea Demersal Fisheries Management Plan

Overview

The purpose of these consultations is to seek your views on the proposed joint Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) for Irish Sea demersal and pelagic fisheries, including their objectives, policies and proposed actions. We are also seeking your views on the accompanying environmental reports and Regulatory Impact Assessments (RIA).

A Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) is defined in the Fisheries Act 2020 as a document, prepared and published under this Act, that sets out policies designed to restore one or more stocks of sea fish to, or maintain them at, sustainable levels.

These are joint Fisheries Management Plans developed collaboratively by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and the Welsh Government. The three administrations are consulting jointly and are seeking views from stakeholders across all relevant sectors to inform the final plans.

The Draft Demersal FMP brings together the available evidence on the status of key demersal stocks in the Irish Sea, including Nephrops, cod, haddock, whiting, sole and plaice, and sets out a range of objectives and proposed actions to support their sustainable management. It also considers the wider environmental, social and economic context of these mixed fisheries and the communities that depend on them.

Diben yr ymgynghoriadau hyn yw ceisio’ch safbwyntiau ar y Cynlluniau Rheoli Pysgodfeydd (FMPau) ar y cyd arfaethedig ar gyfer pysgodfeydd gwely’r môr a phelagig Môr Iwerddon, gan gynnwys eu hamcanion, eu polisïau a’u camau gweithredu arfaethedig. Rydym hefyd yn ceisio’ch safbwyntiau ar yr adroddiadau amgylcheddol a’r Asesiad Effaith Rheoleiddiol cysylltiedig.

Mae Deddf Pysgodfeydd 2020 yn diffinio Cynllun Rheoli Pysgodfeydd (FMP) fel dogfen, a baratoir ac a gyhoeddir o dan y Ddeddf honno, sy’n amlinellu polisïau a luniwyd i adfer un neu fwy o stociau pysgod môr i lefelau cynaliadwy neu eu cynnal ar lefelau cynaliadwy.

Cynlluniau Rheoli Pysgodfeydd ar y cyd yw’r rhain a ddatblygwyd ar y cyd gan yr Adran Amaethyddiaeth, yr Amgylchedd a Materion Gwledig (DAERA), Adran yr Amgylchedd, Bwyd a Materion Gwledig (Defra), a Llywodraeth Cymru. Mae’r tair gweinyddiaeth yn ymgynghori ar y cyd ac yn ceisio safbwyntiau gan randdeiliaid ar draws pob sector perthnasol i lywio’r cynlluniau terfynol.

Mae hefyd yn ystyried cyd-destun amgylcheddol, cymdeithasol ac economaidd ehangach y pysgodfeydd cymysg hyn a’r cymunedau sy’n dibynnu arnynt.
