Please see results of Walking School Bus engagement survey with parents of primary school children within the Newry City area
Today fewer children walk to school than children 30 years ago. In 2020 a Department for Infrastructure report highlighted that 68% of primary school pupils were driven to and from school by car, while just 19% usually walked. This is despite the fact that just under half of children live less than a mile from their school. Encouraging a healthy lifestyle requires creative solutions that are safe and fun. With this in mind the Promoting Well Being team are engaging with parents / guardians of children that attend primary schools in the inner city areas of Newry on the idea of developing a walking school bus.
What is a Walking School bus?
A walking school bus involves children walking to school in a group (with trained adult supervision) along a set route, picking up additional “passengers” at specific “bus stops” along the way.
We want to get your thoughts on whether the development of a Walking School Bus is a good idea.
To help determine if such a scheme would be needed in the Newry City area please take a few minutes to complete the following questions via the online survey link below.
Your views will determine the next step of this programme proposal.
Thanks in advance
Thank you for your responses.
