Small Woodland Grant Scheme - Consultation (2)

Closed 28 Aug 2020

Opened 17 Jul 2020

Overview

Earlier this year Minister Poots launched the Forests for Our Future programme and pledged to plant 18 million trees by 2030 and create 9,000 hectares of new woodland to support a thriving environment, a strong economy and healthy active communities.  The Programme will help address the UK Government’s net zero carbon target because woodland creation is a simple, low-cost option to help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in woods and wood products.

The Minister stressed that this challenge can only be met with partnership working across the Executive, the public sector, rural landowners and communities. This consultation aims to get your views to help develop a new Small Woodland Grant Scheme.  The Scheme will help landowners integrate smaller areas of woodland within their farm or other business and contribute to the Forest for Our Future programme. This new Scheme will be separate from, but complement the existing Forest Expansion Scheme. We would appreciate you taking a short time to complete this consultation which will help us develop the new Scheme.
